Coach Randy Caden, founder and a current owner of Long Island Sports Zone, has been a coaching staple on Long Island over the past 25 years. Born and raised in Queens, Coach Caden grew up loving the game of baseball. After a playing career at Archbishop Molloy and St. John’s University, as well as an assistant coach at his college alma mater, Coach Caden, pursued a career in finance only to quickly realize as his children were young that his passion for the sport continued and he decided to pursue a coaching career full-time. His keen ability to train and inspire young competitive baseball players on Long Island continues today.
Coach Caden began his re-entry into the baseball coaching scene as an assistant coach at NYIT, subsequently moving to head coach at Suffolk County Community College, Brentwood campus where he made a trip to the 1997 NJCAA World Series during his first year there and won coach of the year several times. After experiencing success at both those schools, Coach Caden became head coach at St. Joseph’s College, Patchogue where he transformed the team into a competitive baseball program. In his 14 seasons at St. Joseph’s, Coach Caden was named “Coach of the Year” four times, had 255 wins, coached 58 All Conference players, and coached the team to their first ever NCAA Regional appearance. He is currently an assistant coach at Farmingdale State College, where he has had continued success by going to the NCAA Regional with the team in his first season there.
Besides his college coaching success, Coach Caden has been on numerous NCAA regional and national baseball committees (NCAA Division III Baseball Committee New York Representative and ABCA All American Committee). Coach Caden founded the Long Island Mariners in 1992, one of the only premier travel baseball teams on Long Island that has been in existence for over 22 years. He opened the Long Island Mariners Sports Academy in 2009 (Now Long Island Sports Zone) and has been training many youth through private lessons and clinics for over 10 years where he focuses on developing both their physical and mental skills. During the summer, he coaches top college prospects as the head coach of the Riverhead Tomcats of the Hamptons Baseball League. He also teaches Sports Management at Farmingdale State College.
At home, Coach Caden is married to his wife, Grace, and has three children, Courtney, Tim, and Kim.
